A Simi Valley woman was killed by her own car Sunday afternoon in an incident authorities were still investigating.
The collision was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Elvado Drive, according to the Simi Valley Police Department. The site is in a residential neighborhood east of Madera Road, on the south side of Bonita Drive.
When officers arrived, they found the 49-year-old woman in the road with significant injuries to her lower body, officials said.
Investigators later determined the woman had been run over by her own car, possibly while trying to start it.
Sgt. Keith Eisenhour said the woman was the only one with the car. As of 4 p.m., investigators were still trying to determine exactly what happened, he said.

"She somehow got herself in a position where the vehicle ran her over," he said.
The incident was initially reported as a major injury case, but the department later said the woman had died at a local trauma center.
