DANBURY — State police are searching for the driver who fled the scene of an early Friday morning crash on westbound Interstate 84, leaving their car behind.

First responders were called to the area of Exit 5 shortly before 4:30 a.m. after a 2009 Honda Civic Si rear-ended a 2017 Subaru Outback at a high rate of speed “causing major damage,” police said.

The Subaru driver, a 45-year-old New Milford man, was transported to Danbury Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Honda driver was not at the scene when emergency personnel arrived.

“Based on some of the preliminary information we have, it would appear that the at-fault driver evaded from the scene. It is unclear if this party evaded on foot or was picked up by a passerby,” Trooper Josue Dorelus said.

The airbags of both vehicles deployed in the crash and both cars were towed from the scene, according to the state police accident information report.

“State police troopers are actively looking to identify the (Honda) driver and make contact with the registered owner of the evading vehicle,” Dorelus said Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Connecticut State Police Troop A at 203-267-2200.
