LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Leslie Deanne Harris took her 8-year-old child with her during a car chase north on Interstate 65 Thursday night, ending in a gas station where she tried to ram her child's father, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received two 911 calls — the first about 9:55 p.m. Thursday as Harris chased her ex on the interstate, and the second after she caught up to him at a gas station, according to reports, which indicated she rammed the car several times.

Earlier that night, Harris, 27, of the 1700 block of Union Street in Lafayette, rented a hotel room in preparation for her child's birthday celebration, police said. Her ex brought their child to the hotel, and he attempted to work on Harris' car.

But the ex's current girlfriend showed up and the two left. Harris quickly followed behind them on I-65, according to police report.

Harris' ex got off the interstate at Indiana 25 and pulled into the Friendly Market Marathon gas station near the roundabout. That's where Harris rammed the car, according to police.

Deputies jailed her on suspicion of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and neglect of a dependent, according to jail records.

She remained incarcerated Friday afternoon in lieu of bond, according to the online jail records.
