A Lake Hamilton school bus carrying 16 students slid into a ditch on Point Cedar Road Wednesday morning to avoid an oncoming vehicle, but there were no injuries, the school district said in a statement released later in the day.
Bus No. 94 was traveling down Point Cedar, "a very narrow road with little to no shoulder," on its morning route when the driver moved the bus "slightly to the right" to avoid an oncoming vehicle, said the statement released through Brian Bridges, the district's communications and public relations coordinator.
"When doing so, one of the bus tires went off of the road causing it to slide into the ditch," it said.
Emergency personnel evaluated the students and the bus driver and decided that the students and the driver could "continue to be safely transferred to the school."
Once the emergency personnel cleared the scene, the students and bus driver transitioned to a different bus and completed their route to school, the statement said.
"The students who were riding the bus have been monitored by school staff throughout the day and have not demonstrated any indication that an emergency condition existed. Parents of the students involved were notified by school officials. The safety and security of our students and staff remain the number one priority for the Lake Hamilton School District."
