FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - A Fond du Lac ambulance carrying a patient was struck by a car Tuesday morning at the intersection of Main St. and Johnson St.
The intersection remains closed to traffic and drivers should avoid the scene.
The crash happened at about 4:15 a.m. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue says an ambulance transporting a patient to St. Agnes Hospital was traveling east on Johnson St. when it was hit by a northbound car.
“The impact of the crash caused extensive damage to the passenger vehicle,” says Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.
One person was ejected from the car. Another person was pinned inside and had to be rescued. O’Leary says they suffered life-threatening injuries.
Two helicopters were called to the scene.
The patient in the ambulance was not hurt during the crash. Two Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue personnel in the ambulance were checked out at a hospital but not hurt.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting the investigation.
