Bus rides are free on Election Day in Corpus Christi, the city’s Regional Transportation Authority announced. All rides on fixed routes, B-Line paratransit, FLEX, and rural on-demand services will be free to help people get to the polls, though no identification, registration, or proof that you are voting are required.
"By providing fare-free rides, we hope to remove transportation or financial hardship as a barrier to voting,” CCRTA Chief Executive Officer Jorge Cruz-Aedo said.
Polls in the Coastal Bend opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. will be able to vote.
So far, 52.5 percent of the eligible voters in Nueces County have already cast a ballot, either in person during early voting or by mail. On the state level, Texas has gone from being 48th in the nation in voting turnout in 2016 to No. 1. Nationally this year, 70 percent of the entire number of people who voted in 2016 had already voted before Election Day.
At the top of the ticket in the bid for the presidency are two men of a certain age with extremely different visions for America. Which candidate has the bigger coattails in an election with the highest early voter turnout in election history will keep many Americans on edge throughout the evening and maybe into the days ahead.
In the Coastal Bend, voters have several local races they are carefully watching, including the City Council but especially the race for mayor. Ten people are on the ballot for mayor, while 13 are up for the three at-large council seats. Twelve more filed for the five district seats.

By the way, in Nueces County, voters can go to any polling place they want to vote.
