A bus drove off the roadway on Thursday, striking an empty vehicle before landing on the roof of a house, according to a Juneau Police Department news release.
The crash, which occurred on Out the Road on the 18000 block of Glacier Highway, happened early in the morning, said JPD Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.
The bus, owned by Goldbelt Inc., left the roadway, struck a parked pickup truck and went down the hillside, landing on the roof of a waterfront residence below. The truck and house were both empty, Campbell said. Both the truck and bus are totalled, Campbell said.
“They weren’t able to move the bus yesterday,” Campbell said in an email on Friday. “The plan was for the owners of the bus to get a crane.”
The 32-year-old man driving the vehicle was not injured in the crash and showed no signs of impairment, Campbell said, though he was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital as a precaution. The crash may be a result of the driver feeling unwell, Campbell said.
“Occasionally when there are wrecks out the road like that, cars can go down the embankment,” Campbell said. “It’s pretty rare to hit a house, but always a concern with a crash like that.”
Goldbelt did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
