KALAMAZOO, MI -- A 17-year-old male is in stable condition after he was shot Friday afternoon while sitting in a parked car.

The shooting was reported around 3:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, in the 400 block of Reed Avenue, according to Kalamazoo Public Safety Sgt. Robert Holdwick.

Officers were called to that location on reports of gunfire and soon learned that the 17-year-old who was shot had been taken to an area emergency room.

The teen, a Kalamazoo resident, told officers he was sitting inside a parked car when he was hit by gunfire, Holdwick said.

Officers were able to recover evidence from the shooting scene but have not yet been able to locate or identify the shooter.

Earlier in the day, around 2:45 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of Bridge Street on a separate incident of gunfire.

Police officials say a house in the area occupied by an adult and a toddler was struck by gunfire but no one was injured. Officers were unable to locate the shooter involved in that incident but did collect shell casings.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-337-8120 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
