A horrific crash left a car split in two and shut down a Naperville intersection for more than three hours during the Friday afternoon rush hour, officials said.

The crash happened at approximately 3:11 p.m. near Diehl and Mill Roads, authorities said.

According to a news release from police, a 2008 black Audi driven by a 29-year-old Chicago man collided with a 2008 silver Buick driven by an 18-year-old man from Naperville.

The driver of the Buick was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Edward Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Video from Sky 5 showed the vehicle appeared to have been split in half.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Audi was turning left from westbound Diehl to go south on Mill but failed to yield to the Buick, causing the crash.

The Buick was traveling eastbound on Diehl.

The driver of the Audi was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

The roads reopened as of 6:32 p.m.
