STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A parked car was stolen after a man left the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition while he was inside a deli in Stapleton, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The incident reportedly happened on the 300 block of Gordon Street near Laurel Avenue around 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

A 21-year old man told police that he parked a red, four-door, 2018 Honda Civic at that location. He left and when he returned, his car was missing, the police spokesman said.

The man was inside the deli buying food when the vehicle was stolen, the source said.

The police search for the vehicle continues.
