A white 2016 Dodge Charger, that was stolen in Louisiana, crashed into a Toyota midday Tuesday in Palmer Township after being pursued by New Jersey State Police and Pennsylvania State Police, a news release says.

Pennsylvania troopers were advised that New Jersey troopers were following the car as it crossed into Pennsylvania on Interstate 78, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Pennsylvania troopers pursued the car onto Route 33 North, exiting at Williams Penn Highway in Bethlehem Township and heading east into Palmer, the news release said.

The car, driven by a 19-year-old New York man named Rashaad JaJuan Perry, crashed into a Toyota Corolla at Stones Crossing Road, police said. Neither driver was hurt and the New York man was arrested by troopers from the Belfast barracks, police said.

The man was charged in Pennsylvania with receiving stolen property, fleeing or eluding police officers, two minor drug counts, two counts of DUI (controlled substance), and six vehicular offenses tied to the pursuit and the crash, police said.

He was arraigned before District Judge Alicia Rose Zito and held in lieu of $150,000 bail, records show.

A New Jersey State Police public information officer could not confirm if troopers from that state were involved in the pursuit, only that they were assisting Pennsylvania State Police.

Millburn, New Jersey, police saw the car earlier on the property of the Short Hills Mall and determined it was stolen, patrol Capt. Edward Blazinski said Wednesday by email. A pursuit ended quickly and police sent a message on the Statewide Police Emergency Network that the car was heading west on Interstate 78.

An assault occurred at the mall about the same time and “it was mistakenly connected to the stolen car and broadcast over SPEN,” Blazinski said.

Once the mistake was realized, the message was updated, Blazinski said.

Pennsylvania State Police reported Tuesday that there was an armed robbery in New Jersey tied to the car. A state police spokesman couldn’t immediately be reached to see if the robbery and the assault were the same mistaken incident.

Court papers did not list an attorney for Perry.
