CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Happening Wednesday morning - over 400 privately owned bus transportation companies are heading to gather at the White House for the “Buses Move America” rally.
Agape Travel and Tours is one of the local companies from Chesapeake that helped organize this entire event. News 3 caught up with one of the owners on why they’re going.
The company has been in the travel management and tour business since 1995.
The owners of the small business - Wayne and Jacqueline Grice - say since the coronavirus pandemic, their company has taken a huge hit along with all of the other transportation companies.
They explained that they believe the government has not been pushing for funding to help the transportation businesses stay afloat during the COVID-19 outbreak - so they’ve decided to take action and matters into their own hands by protesting at the White House to raise awareness.
The owners explained it as a positive event to showcase how big buses and small businesses move America.
“Right now, because of the pandemic, nobody’s traveling. You have to be social distancing, so nobody’s traveling. We haven’t had any bus movement since the second week of March and that goes for probably the majority of bus companies if not all,” explained Wayne Grice, Vice President of Agape Travel and Tours. “We’re pushing for funding. We’re trying to get a $15 billion in funding because it seems like motor coaches were left out of the stimulus package.”
The group says they are expected to arrive in D.C. around 7 a.m., and the entire event is expected to get started around 10:30 a.m.
