FLINT, MI – The Mass Transportation Authority in Flint is set to reinstate some services beginning next week.
Starting Monday, May 18, MTA will have fixed route bus service running once again after suspending them April 1.
Those services will operate from 6:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Passengers boarding the bus will be asked to wear a mask or scarf. Those riders without a mask will find them available on the bus.
“Boarding the bus will be done through the rear doors only and fares will be waived until June 1, 2020,” per a Tuesday, May 12 statement on MTA’s Facebook page. “Passengers who are sick will be requested to stay at home. Regional Route bus service will be reinstated on June 1, 2020.”
The news came on the same day Michigan Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow announced MTA will receive a $19 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration by way of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act that will also for transit system to remain operational through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rides to Wellness Service for qualified Michigan Department of Health and Human Services clients and Genesee County veterans through MTA will resume June 1.
The service which provides rides to healthcare appointments was suspended after a bus driver tested positive for COVID-19.

Ed Benning, MTA director, previously said two additional Rides to Wellness drivers were tested and found to have the disease. All Ride to Wellness Employees were asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
“The Mass Transportation Authority has taken numerous steps to protect our drivers and the riding public,” Tuesday’s statement reads. “Our ability to keep these services operating will depend greatly on passenger cooperation.”
