CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Domestic violence: Desota Avenue

At 3:10 p.m. May 2, police were called to a scene where a woman had apparent;y attempted to strike a man with her car. The first officer to arrive found the car parked at an angle on a tree lawn and a group of people, later learned to be the man’s family and neighbors, surrounding the car. The family members live on the street.

The officer also saw the car’s driver, 19, standing outside the vehicle crying and hysterical while speaking on the phone with her mother. Police interviewed the woman, two passengers in her car -- one of whom is the man’s sister -- and other members of the man’s family and neighbors.

It was learned that the woman went to the man’s home to drop off clothes for their young son. At the time, she had in her car the couple’s younger son, 1. The woman said that she and the man then argued about the woman not having their son in a car seat. She said she drove away, then turned her car around and went back to drop off the clothes.

The woman told police that the man approached her car while holding a rock, pulled off her wig and punched in the face, causing her to punch back as she sat in the car. Shaken, the woman drove away, she said, up onto the tree lawn.

Officers heard conflicting stories from witnesses stating that the woman tried to run over the man, causing him to jump out of the way, then approach the car and pull the woman’s hair and strike her. The woman’s face showed signs that she had been struck. When police arrived, the man, 21, ran from the scene.

Officers were unable to determine if the woman drove her car at the man with the intent of striking him. After discussing the matter, officers determined the man to be the primary aggressor. The woman told officers she wanted to pursue charges of domestic violence and child endangerment against the man. She also sought a temporary protection order against him.

Aggravated menacing: Eddington Road

At 10:05 a.m. April 30, police were called to a home on a report of a disturbance involving weapons. It was learned that the disturbance began due to a disagreement between residents of the first floor of the house, and residents of the second floor.

After investigation, police found that a woman who lives downstairs went shopping that morning with two women from upstairs. The three were drunk and an argument ensued. After the three arrived home, a son of the woman who lives downstairs allegedly went upstairs to confront the two women upstairs about the argument. The son had a gun and, according to one of the upstairs women, placed a gun to her head and pulled the trigger. The woman said that the gun only clicked, allowing her to run from the scene.

One of the upstairs women called her boyfriend, a concealed weapon permit holder, and he came to the house with his gun. The boyfriend knocked on the first floor door and was greeted by a male with a gun. Someone inside the first-floor dwelling then shut the door on the boyfriend.

The woman who lives on the first floor, the mother of two sons, was displaying mood swings. Police note that she was belligerent and out of control. At one point, while with police in her home’s front yard, she engaged in an argument with a woman who lives across the street and the two had to be separated. It was found that the first-floor woman, 48, had not taken her bipolar medication. She had been drinking the entire previous night.

Police detained the first-floor woman, took her to the hospital and charged her with voluntary intoxication causing annoyance or alarm. Also detained were the woman’s son who had the gun, and a man, 18, found in the house. The 18-year-old had been reported missing from Cleveland in November, when he was a 17-year-old juvenile.

Charges are pending for aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct and evidence tampering.

Disturbance: Noble Road

At 12:30 a.m. April 30, police were called to an apartment building where an altercation had taken place involving a man and a woman.

Police arrived to find that the woman had difficulty speaking English. Through a neighbor, officers learned that the woman, while arguing, had been struck in the face by another neighbor, a man.

The woman refused medical attention and did not wish to file charges for assault. Police spoke with the male neighbor, who denied striking the woman. Officers strongly advised the man to stay away from the woman and have no further contact with her.

Warrant arrest: Superior Road

At 11 p.m. May 1, an officer spotted a car drive past that did not have a working license plate light. A traffic stop was conducted. The man driving did not have a valid license and was found to be wanted on a Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office warrant for a weapons offense. The man was arrested on the warrant.

A check of the vehicle the man was driving resulted in officers finding a bag containing a jar filled with marijuana, and a digital scale. The man was further cited for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Domestic violence: Mayfield Road

At 1:10 p.m. May 2, police were called about a threat of domestic violence at a house. A woman, 57, said she had just returned home with her sister, 33, when the younger woman told her, “I will slice your neck.”

The older woman ran from the house, knowing of her sister’s prior struggles with mental illness, and got into her car. The older woman’s daughter was present and heard the threat and said the younger sister immediately left the house holding a box cutter, and got into her car. Both sisters drove away from the house.

The older sister sought charges against her sibling for domestic violence threats and aggravated menacing.
