Three men were hit by an oncoming car while changing a flat tire on route 222 in Ontelaunee Township Friday night, killing two of them, the Reading Eagle reported.
A man and woman pulled over to change a flat tire and called two of their friends to block traffic with their car, according to a preliminary investigation reported by the Reading Eagle. A car in the left lane then crashed into the two parked cars and the three men who were changing the tire at around 9:30 p.m.
Kenneth J. Ortiz, 22, and his brother Kevin Ortiz, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:53 p.m. by Berks County Deputy Coronor Robert Bickham.
The crash sent two people to Reading Hospital, a woman, 27, who was inside the pulled-over car and the third man changing the tire, a 25-year-old from Temple. They are in critical condition, according to the Reading Eagle.
The driver who hit them, a 25-year-old man from Muhlenberg Township, was also transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
