DUNSTABLE – Police say a 50-year-old resident of Ashby suffered serious injuries after crashing his car on Thursday night.

A Dunstable Police officer was parked at the fire station on Pleasant Street on Thursday when just after 8 p.m., a Dodge Viper drove by at what police called a high rate of speed. Police said the car continued to speed after the officer flashed his emergency lights to stop the driver.

Police Chief James Dow said on Friday that the car then hit two vehicles that were also on Pleasant Street and slid about 200 feet before coming to a stop.

Dow said the driver, whose name would not be released, was transported to Tufts Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. As of Friday morning, the man remained in the hospital.

Dow said the two cars that the driver hit had one occupant in each vehicle. One was injured and the other suffered no injuries. The injured occupant was treated and released at the scene.

A Dunstable Police officer was also treated and then released for injuries sustained while getting the driver out of his vehicle. The injuries were deemed non life-threatening, police said.

The Dunstable Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash. Dow said that charges from the crash are “pending.”
