BROOK PARK, Ohio – A 23-year-old man was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29 after a stolen car he was driving crashed into a median wall and caught fire on the ramp from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to Ohio 237 northbound.
When police arrived, the man was unconscious. A 16-year-old girl in the passenger seat was unhurt except for an abrasion on her collar bone. A 17-year-old girl was in the backseat, and it was later determined that she had suffered a fractured spine and fractured femur. Both girls had been reported missing.
The car, a 2013 Chrysler 300, and its temporary license tag had been stolen in Warrensville Heights. Police learned that the car had been involved in an earlier crash on Interstate 480 westbound near 237. The man sped away from the first crash, which involved another driver. The other driver followed the man in his car until the Chrysler crashed a second time.
The 17-year-old girl later told police that the younger girl was driving the Chrysler when it crashed the first time into a pole on 480 at 237. After that crash, the man and younger girl switched seats and the man drove away before crashing the car a second time.
Police found what they believed was crack cocaine in the man’s pocket. The man and his two passengers were taken to MetroHealth System in Cleveland.
