An MBTA employee was killed in an accident at the Charlestown bus yard Monday morning, the agency has confirmed.
“I can confirm that we had an accident this morning at the Charlestown bus yard that resulted in loss of life,” MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said during a press conference Monday morning. “We are currently in the process of notifying the family and conducting an investigation.”
Poftak said additional information would be “forthcoming” but didn’t say anything more about what happened. The employee has not been publicly identified.

The employee involved was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital early Monday with “serious injuries,” an MBTA spokesperson said in an email.
Photos of the scene show a bus stopped in the yard and surrounded by yellow tape and orange traffic barrels.
“Obviously we all mourn collectively for this terrible accident and for this loss of life,” Poftak said.
