WOMAN ARRESTED: A Battle Creek woman, 26, was arrested after Battle Creek police said she entered a car and later slapped a bartender. The owners of the car, a woman, 23, and her husband, 30, said they found the intoxicated woman in the passenger seat of their car about 8:15 p.m. Sunday while they were doing laundry at the Lakeview Laundry at 654 Capital Ave. S.W. They told her to get out and the husband took the woman to the Lakeview Lounge at 642 Capital Ave. S.W. and asked the owner to watch her while he called police. The 64-year-old bar owner told the woman she had to stay, police reported, and he said she slapped him in the face but then stayed in the bar until officers arrived. When officers arrived the woman said she didn't know why they had been called and that she had never been in trouble. She refused to give officers her name but said a phone, wallet and coat found in the couple's car did belong to her, though she didn't know why it was in their car. She told police she had been watching the Detroit Lions football game in the bar but didn't know how much she had to drink. Police took her to the Calhoun County jail on charges of breaking and entering and assault.
STUFF TAKEN: A man, 59, and woman, 49, were arrested after Battle Creek police said they stole $102 in merchandise from the Dollar General at 707 North Ave. at 12:33 p.m. Sunday. A clerk, 35, said the man and the woman, who was in a wheelchair, entered the store and the man put a plastic bag into the woman's purse and began placing grocery items inside. They then went to the clothing section and concealed more items. The clerk confronted them as they attempted to leave and told police the man then approached her with his hands in fists and she went back into the store and they left. The couple was found by police near Redner and Goodale avenues. The couple admitted they stole the items to pay for their drug habits. Both were arrested on charges of retail fraud and the items returned to the store.
