Carrying concealed weapon, marijuana possession: Smith Road

A Cleveland man, 30, was arrested at about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 23 after police found a loaded handgun and six bags of marijuana in his vehicle.

It happened outside Circle K & Marathon Gas, 5878 Smith. Store workers flagged down police and said the man had passed out in a car parked at one of the gas pumps.

The pump was still in the man’s car, so police removed it and hung it back up.

Police opened the car’s unlocked driver’s-side door and noticed a bag of marijuana. They woke the man and saw the butt of the handgun in the driver’s seat. Police ordered the man to place his hands on the car’s roof. He complied, and police confiscated the handgun.

The man claimed he had a permit for the handgun, but said he didn’t have the permit with him. Police learned that the man’s gun permit had been suspended.

Police also found a half-full bottle of tequila in the man’s car. The bags of marijuana were in the back seat, inside a backpack.

The man was carrying $3,130 in one pants pocket, $2,922 in the other pocket and $765 in his wallet. There was an additional $1,000 in the car door.

The man passed field sobriety tests.

Disorderly conduct: Smith Road

An intoxicated Brook Park man, 21, was arrested at about 8 p.m. Oct. 25 after he stumbled into the parking lot of Palker’s Smith & Sheldon Auto Service Center, 6550 Smith, and rummaged through two unlocked vehicles.

A witness said the man walked out of Thirst and Ten Sports Grille across the street from Palker’s. The man opened the hood of one car parked outside Palker’s and opened the door to a second car. Then he walked north on Smith.

The witness followed the man. He said the man stumbled on Smith and turned onto Lindmont Drive. A second witness saw the man fall down on Lindmont. When the man reached Michael Drive, he tried to break into a vehicle.

Police spotted the man on Michael. He was stumbling and almost fell. The man told police he was walking home. He reeked of alcohol and seemed to be confused. His jeans were stained with mud, and grass clippings were on his shirt.

He denied entering or trying to break into any cars.

Criminal damaging: Smith Road

An unidentified man broke a window at Quick State Liquor, 5945 Smith, by throwing a glass liquor bottle through it at about 3 p.m. Oct. 24.

A Quick State worker said the man was upset that he wasn’t allowed to make a purchase using a credit card. He threw the bottle from outside the store, then drove away in a green Corvette.

The incident was captured on security video and police have the man’s license plate number.

Arrest warrant served, sudden illness: Brookpark Road

A wanted Lorain man, 41, was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21 outside America’s Best Value Inn, 14043 Brookpark.

Police received a tip that the man was at the hotel. As police arrived, the man ran out of the hotel and into Holy Cross Cemetery on Brookpark. Police spotted him on Marginal Road near West 151st Street. He ran toward Rock-N-Roll Harley-Davidson across the street from the cemetery.

A worker at Geek Shop, next door to the Harley-Davidson dealer, told police that the man was hiding in a trash bin along the side of the building. When police approached the bin, both lids were closed.

They ordered the man out. The man didn’t respond. Police drew a taser and opened the lids. The man was lying in the bin, unconscious but breathing.

Police tipped the bin over and pulled the man out. He regained consciousness and was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights for an evaluation.

Theft by deception: Bowfin Boulevard

A Bowfin woman called police Oct. 6 and said she had been scammed out of money on the internet after starting a relationship with an unidentified person.

The woman said she had met the person on WhatsApp, a message service. He gave a fake name and said he was in the U.S. Air Force. After several back-and-forth messages over a few days, the woman agreed to marry the scammer.

At the scammer’s request, the woman purchased $300 in bitcoin and deposited the currency in his virtual wallet. She also gave him access to her bank account. The scammer deposited several bad checks into the woman’s account and left her with an $800 overdraft.

The woman became suspicious and called police. She changed her bank account and stopped communicating with the scammer.

Theft, criminal damaging: Brookpark Road

All four tires were stolen between 1:30 and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 from a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban parked outside Ganley Chevrolet, 13865 Brookpark. Someone also broke a window in the vehicle.

Operating a vehicle under the influence, endangering a child: Sheldon & Engle roads

A Cleveland woman, 36, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. Oct. 26 after police caught her driving drunk with her 7-year-old daughter in the car. Someone had called police about the woman being intoxicated in a parking lot.

Criminal mischief: Holland Road

A prisoner in the Brook Park jail, 17401 Holland, threw balls of wet toilet paper at police officers and pasted wet toilet paper on the walls of his cell at about 2:45 a.m. Oct. 23. He faces additional charges of criminal mischief.

Criminal mischief: Holland Road

Someone spray-painted graffiti on playground equipment outside Brook Park Elementary School, 17001 Holland. It was reported at about 2:15 p.m. Oct. 12. Someone used white and red spray paint to deface a table, floor platform, a sliding board, a pole, two swings and other platforms.
