Oh, Canada.
CNN reports how officials in Jasper, a town in Canada’s Alberta province, have posted signage around the area urging drivers to steer clear of any moose looking to lick their cars. Apparently, the salt encrusted on to vehicles is particularly appetizing to moose, tempting them to mosey over to parked cars for a little savory snack.
While this may seem like an innocent interaction between nature and humans, it can actually result in some dangerous consequences.

Should moose get used to licking salt off of cars, they’ll become more accustomed to their presence. This runs the risk of moose wandering close to cars who then crash into them.
“Moose and cars are not a good mix,” Jasper National Park spokesman Steve Young explained to CNN. “If you hit the moose with your car, you take the legs out from under it and it’s going through your windshield.”
So then what’s the best way to keep moose from licking salt from cars, according to Canadian officials? The answer to that is just by simply driving away.
Channel 3000 additionally notes that, while most wildlife will flee upon the approach of humans, moose tend to stand their ground. They also may charge should they feel threatened.
When coming into contact with any type of wildlife species, it is best to remain in one’s car and avoid disturbing it entirely.
