DETROIT -- Two people were killed Sunday night following a pair of crashes on the Lodge Freeway near Chicago Boulevard. According to the Michigan State Police, troopers were called to the scene around 7:55 p.m. for reports of a crash.

Police determined that two cars that were heading southbound were involved in an accident that left one car blocking the left lane of the freeway and the other car was on the right shoulder. The two occupants of the car in the left lane exited their vehicle and were standing by it when a third car slammed into the car and the two people, killing them instantly.

The identities of the victims have not been release and an investigation is ongoing. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash that killed the two people. No one else was hurt in the accidents according to police.
