A man was shot and killed Monday night in north Harris County while driving a car that crashed into a tree, officials said.
Harris County sheriff's deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. to a reported major crash on Richardson Road at Darrington Lane in the Champions Park neighborhood, said Sgt. Jason Brown of the Sheriff's Office homicide division.
Deputies found the driver dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds, Brown said.
Investigators believe there was a passenger in the car who fled on foot before authorities arrived. It is likely the shooting occurred while the car was in motion, Brown said.
Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for video footage.
