CREVE COEUR, Ill (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Sweet Kids Cruise-In & Car Show happened on Sunday.
The event featured food, music, and unique cars. The goal of the car show was to spread awareness and raise money for diabetes.
Dan Jones is an organizer for the event. Jones was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 14.
The idea for the show started when Jones's daughter was also diagnosed with diabetes at age 18.
"My daughter always has liked cars, and when she turned 19 she bought a 67' mustang," Jones said. "She says dad let's put these cars to work and make some money for the PDRC. That's when this started back in 2011."
They also wanted to educate families about diabetes. Jones partnered with the Pediatric Diabetes Resource Center at Children's Hospital of Illinois.
"I know what it was when my daughter was diagnosed at the age 18," Jones said. "It's a lot of support, counseling, educating and all the parents are involved in it 100 percent."
Each year at the show the foundation selected a recently diagnosed child who received the pediatric patient award.
The selected child got to pick their favorite car. That car won the show. The kids selected in the past came back to enjoy the show.
