HOLYOKE — A 22-year old Holyoke man is facing multiple firearms and motor vehicle charges after crashing onto a lawn on Anderson Avenue Thursday night while trying to outrun police, police said.
Officers found a 9mm Glock handgun, previously reported stolen in Louisiana, was found on the floor of the car, said Capt. Matthew Moriarty.
Arrested was Teondre Koby Thomas. He was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, improper storage of a firearm, receiving stolen property, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, destruction of property, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and other traffic violations.
Moriarty said that just after 6:15 p.m. two detectives in an unmarked police car watched Thomas run a stop sign at Linden Street and almost hit their vehicle. When they approached his car and told him to turn off the engine, Thomas instead sped off, nearly hitting two other vehicles in traffic, Moriarty said.
He lost control of the car and crashed onto the lawn at 4 Anderson St., and the impact blew out two tire and caused the airbags to deploy. Thomas got out to run but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Holyoke District Court.
