Morris Township police: Car thieves target country clubs - Morristown Green

Morris Township police again are reminding residents to lock their car doors and remove keys and valuables, after a vehicle was stolen Thursday from the Morris County Country Club and another was entered at the Springbrook Country Club.

Both thefts occurred in the late afternoon, Police Chief Mark DiCarlo said on Friday.

A BMW X6, which had its key FOB inside, was stolen around 4 pm from the Morris County Country Club and later recovered in Irvington.

The suspects, three males wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts, began checking door handles at the golf course, the chief said.

At Springbrook, a key fob was stolen from an Audi. That incident was reported afterward, but police think it preceded the Morris County theft.

Police believe the same suspects are involved, though they have not yet confirmed this.

Car thieves seeking easy scores have found fertile hunting in the Township, where vehicles often are left unlocked.

Anyone with information about the country club incidents should call police at (973) 539-0777.
