Car crash: Pearl Road

Police went to the scene of a one-car crash at 9:29 p.m. June 4. The officer saw a car on the sidewalk facing the National Tire & Battery company. It appeared it struck the utility power box. The driver said she was at a restaurant on Eastland Road. She admitted having two beers prior to driving. She left the bar and dropped off a friend. She does not remember how she ended up on Pearl Road. She believed she blacked out prior to crashing her car. The officer smelled alcohol in the car and on her breath. Her eyes looked glossy and red. As she left her car to perform sobriety field tests, the officer saw several unopened beer bottles under the driver’s seat. She failed the physical tests and was arrested for drunken driving. She took a breath test at the station that measured a .202 BAC. A witness told police she went to the car after the accident. The driver told her she was OK, didn’t want the police contacted and was drunk.

Stolen firearm: Cherokee Trail

A resident reported June 4 his firearm was missing. He told police he had his firearm in the console of his truck when he went camping May 26 in Andover. He is unsure if the truck was locked at that time. He returned home the next day. He noticed his firearm was not in his truck June 2.

Fraud: Robert Drive

A resident went to the police June 4 to report fraudulent activity. He told police he received a letter from a recovery management firm two weeks ago that he owned $602 for prior debts with a bank and PayPal. He questioned the letter’s assertions. One included a transaction on Jan. 16 for $447. It had a Cleveland address assigned to him. However, he had no affiliation with that address. The amount owed now rose to over $600. Police were able to contact a person who lived at the Cleveland home, but he said they moved from there in 2018. The detective bureau is investigation the incident.

Grand theft: Galemore Drive

A resident told police she parked her car at home at 10 p.m. June 4. She went to it at 9 a.m. June 5 and it was gone. She did not think the key was in the car, but said a set of keys were missing. She did not give anyone permission to drive it.

Assault: West 130 Street

Police went to the Sunoco gas station at 8:38 p.m. June 2 about a man who was assaulted and had a gun pointed at him in the lot. Police went to the station and found the victim, who was bleeding from the mouth. The man’s girlfriend and a witness were at the scene. Two other officers arrived and took cover behind a fence near the rear of the residence that was next to the gas station. A witness told them the suspect was inside the house. Police tried to contact the suspect who reportedly still had the handgun. They told the witness to encourage the suspect to leave the house. While talking, the suspect walked out of the rear of the house and toward the front. Two of the officers drew their firearms since they were unsure if the suspect still had his weapon. They ordered him to the ground. He complied, was handcuffed and placed in the cruiser.

The victim refused medical treatment when the ambulance arrived. He said he and his girlfriend went to the gas station to pick up the man who lives next door to the station. He was the witness to the incident. The suspect approached the victim and spoke to him. The two had a few words. The suspect then got into a fighting stance. He punched the victim several times in the face. The suspect went into the house, got a handgun and approached him again while pointing the gun at him. The victim took cover behind his girlfriend’s car and called police. The girlfriend gave the same description of the incident. The friend/witness gave a similar account. The suspect was arrested for aggravated menacing and assault. He refused to provide a statement of the incident. The next day, the suspect’s son turned in a weapon at the station, which the court ordered as part of the man’s bond and release.

Criminal mischief: Normandie Boulevard

A man and his girlfriend went to the police station at 9:30 a.m. May 27. It involved the man’s car receiving multiple scratches on the driver’s side front fender, side doors and side. The scratches varied in length and depth. The victim said they have been having problems with another couple in the complex. Their disagreement continued at 10:23 p.m. May 26 and police were called there twice that night. The incidences were documented and resolved at that time. The victim said he parked his car in his carport at 10:30. It did not have any damaged areas. At 9 a.m. May 27, he went to his car and found the extensive damages. He believed the man with whom he had disagreements did the damage. Police contacted the couple in question later at the scene. The man denied doing anything to the victim’s car. The report has been suspended until more information is obtained.

Found property: Hepburn Drive

Police went to an area near the old cemetery at 8:46 a.m. June 3 for an abandoned bike. It had a rear tire off the rim and the chain hanging loose from its frame. It was taken to the station for safe keeping until the owner claims it.

Drunken driving: Old Oak Boulevard

Police went to a car crash at 7:11 a.m. June 2. One of the cars was on its side and the driver, unconscious. A witness told police she saw a car pull out of the McDonald’s driveway and head west on Bagley Road. She saw it weave outside its lane and crash. She believed the driver was under the influence of something. The fire department extracted the driver who was now conscious. He appeared disoriented and had not been wearing a seat belt. He admitted to drinking. He said he may have blacked out. The driver did not know where he was, but said he was on his way to his mother’s house. He had a difficult time staying awake and talking. He also slurred his speech. Due to his condition, he was arrested for drunken driving. He refused to submit to a breath test.

Drug paraphernalia: Bagley Road

An officer checked a car while he was patrolling at 12:38 p.m. May 30. He found the owner of the car had two warrants, for shoplifting and breaking and entering. The license plates also had expired as was the owner’s driver’s license. As the car pulled into the Gulf gas station, the officer ordered the driver to show him his hands outside the driver side window. The man, who was the car’s owner, obliged. He was arrested and placed into the cruiser. During an inventory of the car, a crack pipe was found near the cup holder and a plastic bag near the driver’s feet area. An opened beer also was found under the driver’s seat.

Theft, Pearl Road:

The manager of Sunnyside Wholesale Parts went to the station May 21. He said about four weeks ago, one of his employees said he lost the company’s cell phone. They contacted the cell phone company and had the number frozen. They received a notification that someone was trying to change the company’s password on the account. The company was able to change the password back and block the person’s ability to change it again. The company obtained a new phone, contacted the carrier and tried to reactive the old phone number for the new phone. They then began receiving messages from an unknown phone number trying to contact a woman. An officer contacted the caller who did not identify himself. He said he only had that number for a woman whom he had not been in contact for some time. The officer told him to tell the woman to contact police when he talks with her.
