A driver died Saturday afternoon in Tewksbury after a tree fell on his car while he was traveling on County Route 517, police said.
Police were called to the area of mile marker 2.6 on the highway at 3:09 p.m. and found a 2008 Toyota Tacoma with a tree on top of it, according to a statement from the Tewksbury Police.
Local rescue and fire crews arrived to help police free the driver from the car, but he died from his injuries, police said.
The driver’s identity was not released Saturday evening as police were still notifying next of kin.
It was unclear what caused the tree to fall.
