ASHEVILLE - A man who barricaded himself inside a city bus with a knife is in stable condition after police say he disembarked while still armed and was tasered and shot by officers.
The incident, which unfolded Aug. 20 on the 1600 block of Hendersonville Road, took place following an Asheville Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent-initiated traffic stop involving a bus on which Grant Paul Dalton, 35, of Asheville, was a passenger.
APD, called to assist, mobilized a crisis team to evacuate transit staff and passengers and then initiate Dalton's safe removal.

Police say Dalton began stabbing himself in the neck while on the bus. As he disembarked, officers fired their tasers and at least one gun. Police reports say Dalton lunged at officers before he was shot, though some witnesses have called that account into question.
Dalton had five open warrants with ABC law enforcement, including three misdemeanor warrants for injury to personal property and two felony warrants — one for assault on a law enforcement officer causing serious injury and another for larceny of a motor vehicle.
APD spokeswoman Christina Hallingse said police have now issued two additional warrants: one for assault on a government official and another for communicating threats.
"Grant is still being treated but is in stable condition," she said. "Once he is released from the hospital all his warrants will be served."
