CASPER, Wyo — The Natrona County School District (NCSD) has released details on modified bus transportation practices for the coming school year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  “NCSD Transportation’s goal is to meet the guidelines as provided by state and local health officials while ensuring a safe and healthy transportation experience for all student riders and staff,” the district said in a release Friday, August 7.

“All students who are in need of NCSD Transportation must be a registered bus rider. Students who are not registered cannot ride the bus due to safety guidelines,” said the school district.

To effectively manage health concerns and limited spacing, NCSD asks parents to register children for bus transportation prior to August 21st, 2020,” said NCSD,

“Please only register your child if you intend for them to ride the bus frequently and consistently,” said NCSD.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to transport their children to and from school if possible.

Face coverings will be required of students and staff due to the inability to meet the 6’ social distancing requirements while on NCSD Transportation and during transition times at the NCSD Bus Hub. NCSD will provide masks to staff and students, as needed. When practicable, the spacing of at least 6’ of students during transport to and from the facility may occur during unique rural situations.

Hand sanitizer dispensers will be on each bus and students and staff will be highly encouraged to sanitize hands upon entry and exit.

In order to ensure student safety and comply with state guidance of not having more than 50 total riders —including drivers, coaches, monitors and assistants)  NCDS must have accurate registration numbers which will allow for arrangement of additional busses if needed.

Additional NCSD measures are as follows:

  • NCSD Transportation staff will assign seats for each student and manage all seating on the bus.
  • There shall be no more than two riders per seat and riders must wear face coverings.
  • Students from the same household will be seated together as much as practicable.
  • Bus riding priority will be given to students that ride every day.
  • Only registered students with assigned seats will be allowed to ride the bus they are assigned.
  • The practice of a “Friend Riding With a Friend” will not be allowed at this time.
  • The student’s bus/seat assignment will be removed after five days of absence unless arrangements have been made with Transportation.
  •  If circumstances related to COVID-19 occur, considerations will be made.

From the release:

In order to ensure your child has an assigned seat on their designated bus prior to the first day of school, registrations should be submitted no later than August 21, 2020. Registrations submitted after this date will be processed in the order they are received.  If you submit your NCSD Transportation registration after this date, your student may not have an assigned seat by the first day of school and would be unable to ride NCSD Transportation until the registration is processed.

Route Changes

To further align with the State of Wyoming Department of Education guidelines, some bus stops have been relocated to the nearest building or property owned by Natrona County School District. Each family will be notified of their stop location and times after they have registered via the email they used to register. (This notification process is new for 2020-21 school year.)

Please do not send your child to a bus stop unless you have registered for a route and have received a seat assignment.

Thank you for your partnership as we all work together to ensure safe and healthy environments for students, staff, and school families.  While this upcoming year has some unknowns and certain challenges, we are confident in the exceptional abilities and dedication of our students, staff, school families, and community to come together and make it a great year for all.
