EATON COUNTY, MI – A Portland Michigan man was killed on Father’s Day when his motorcycle was hit by a car that ran a stop sign at an intersection in Eaton County

Richard Genautis, 63, was pronounced dead Sunday, June 21, after a car crashed into him while he was riding his motorcycle through the intersection of Charlotte Highway and Eaton Highway in Roxand Township, west of Lansing, according to the Michigan State Police.

Rescue crews were called at 4:15 p.m. Sunday to the intersection, where life-saving efforts of Genautis were attempted, but unsuccessful, police said.

Investigators determined Genautis had the right of way traveling south on Charlotte Highway when a woman driving west on Eaton Highway disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and collided with Genautis, police said.

The woman was not injured in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation, though preliminary information indicates narcotics may have played a factor in the crash, police said.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, the Lansing Police Department, the Roxand Township Fire Department and the Grand Ledge Fire Department assisted at the scene.
