OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Sheriff’s deputies are working to determine if anything was taken during overnight burglaries at Coopersville auto dealers.

Numerous break-ins have been reported in West Michigan in recent months, resulting in a dramatic surge of auto thefts.

An Ottawa County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol early Tuesday, Aug. 18, when he spotted a broken window at the Betten Baker Ford dealership at 940 O’Malley Drive. The burglar or burglars broke the window to gain entry.

The offices of Betten Baker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram next door were also burglarized, police said.

Deputies are working with staff to determine if anything was stolen. Crime-scene technicians also responded to collect evidence and process the scene.

Earlier this month, 19 vehicles were stolen from Autowest of Grand Rapids on 28th Street SE, just east of Madison Avenue. Thieves broke windows with large rocks, stole 72 sets of keys and drove off with 19 vehicles.
